The color that ruffles their feathers

While our avian pals have different color preferences, the large majority of birds are in agreement about the color white. To birds, the color white is a sign of danger or anger. Avoid using white birdbaths, birdhouses, and feeders. If your house is white, try adding greenery and pops of color to make your yard feel like the perfect spot to hang out.

How colors affect birding:

Adding new colors to your yard is a great way to see new bird species. You can choose the colors of your birdbaths, feeders, vegetation, and flowers based on who you want to visit! Although, what species you’ll see depends on more than just color. The time of year, the region you’re in, and the food you set out are all important factors.

Most folks recommend wearing muted-colored clothing when birdwatching outdoors. Softer shades of green, brown, blue, and purple are usually good choices. These colors help you blend in with a bird’s natural habitat, so you don’t spook them away.
